Vanino Commercial Sea Port

BACKGROUND

Port Vanino acquired great importance in the late 1970's after the commissioning of the Baikal-Amur Railroad which crosses the whole of Siberia.

One of the advantages of the Baikal-Amur Railroad is that using it one can transport goods quicker as compared with the Transsiberian Railroad because the northern route is shorter and there are less rail junctions resulting in the decrease of the time of transportation and costs incurred.
